How to Install a VPN on a Firestick or FireTV

This guide will show you how to easily install the IPVanish VPN on your Firestick. It also has a guide for installing Private Internet Access(PIA) on your 2nd Gen Amazon Fire Stick, 1st Generation Fire TV or 2nd Generation Fire TV. You can use the guide for other VPN Clients but you will need to find a link to the Android VPN client of your VPN service. When you have that you can replace the bit.ly link I use in the guide below.

It is becoming more and more important to protect yourself online. This can easily be done using a VPN that stops your internet provider from being able to see what you are accessing online. It also removes any blocks put in place by your internet provider. They are also great for using when you are using public unsecured Wi-Fi

2 VPNs I use and can recommend are IPvanish & StrongVPN. Below are links to their websites. Both of which will give you an extra discount.

How to Install IPVanish VPN on a Firestick:

  • Turn on/plug in you FireStick or Amazon FireTV
  • Highlight Apps - located at the top of the screen - and then press your middle button on your Amazon remote to bring up a sub-menu in Apps
  • Scroll to Categories in the sub menu
  • Select Utility
  • Look for and select IPVanish VPN
  • Select Get to download the IPVanish app
  • After the installation has completed select Open
  • Sign into app using your IPVanish Username and Password
  • Select a server location
  • After you have connected you can press the Home Button on your remote to return to your home screen

How To Install all other VPNs on a Firestick

  • Turn on your Fire Stick
  • Select Settings
  • Select Device
  • Select Developer Options
  • Select Apps from Unknown Sources and turn ON & Select ADB Debugging & turn ON
  • You will now see a warning message regarding unknown sources. Select OK you can turn off unknown sources later but we need it on for now
  • Go back to your home screen (press home button on remote)
  • Highlight Apps - located at the top of the screen - and then press your middle button on your Amazon remote to bring up a sub-menu in Apps
  • Scroll to Categories in the sub menu
  • Select Utility located at the bottom as it is alphabetical
  • Scroll down and select Downloader
  • Select Get to install Downloader
  • After the installation has completed select Open
  • You will now see the following screen. Select the URL section

  • You will now see a window that allows you to enter a URL. Press the select button on your remote and enter the following address bit.ly/piafire (for PIA) - If you can find the url of your own VPN providers Android client you can then go to the bit.ly website and create your own short link so you can install that client instead.
  • Click Next
  • Click Download
  • This will take you to the PIA download page. Hopefully it will start the download automatically. If it doesn't then use your Amazon controller to move the Red Ring (cursor) to the click here to restart the download link
  • The app will now download.
  • Once downloaded you will now see the Install window. Use your remote to highlight the Install button and select it
  • When the install finishes select Open
  • You will now see the login screen
  • Add your Username and Password so they are saved for future use
  • The VPN will be in Your Apps & Games section
