APK Downloader is a Chrome extension that allows you to download APK files from the Google Play Store.

This means you can instantly download APK files from Google Play server, which is faster and safer than installing from third-party web sites.

You can also download .OBB files ( APK Expansion files ) from games.

There are a few steps to setting this up.

  • Download from the Chrome Web Store
  • Open chrome://extensions
  • Select Options for APK Downloader

  • Enter the email address and password you use for the Play Store (if you use 2 step verification then set up an app specific password)
  • Enter Device ID

To find your device ID download the Device ID app for Android. Open the app and your device ID will be shown. Enter this into the options and you are setup. You can now uninstall the Device ID app from your Android device if you want.

You can now download the APK for any FREE app from the Play Store. This will not work with paid apps.

People may be a bit wary about sharing their email, password and device ID so here is a snippet from the dev's websites. You can also read more about it here.

Why do I have to enter my email, password and device ID? Does it store or send my password to another place?

The extension only stores email, device id and Google Play cookie in your browser’s local storage, on your computer. To be able to get Google Play cookie, it needs your email and password to login at https://www.google.com/accounts/ClientLogin . After it’s done, password is not stored, email is stored to display on Options page, Device ID and Cookie are stored for later requests. I do not send those information to another sites.
